quick update for day 4

6 07 2008

like we referenced in day 3, you already remember what day 4 was like

so day 4 will be reported today, it’s the cultural day, so it’ll be online by tomorrow

nothing else to report,

ooh yeah finalists announced, drunk puppy is in top 3 for game development in imagine cup, pictures will follow later, but we’re really excited and happy. all the weight is off our shoulders, cos the places are already decided and will be announced on tuesday. tomorrow we’ll have to give a short demo of 5 min for a big audience but that won’t affect our score

okay so we’re leaving for centre pompidou now so we’ll see you tomorrow for next update

and thanks to anyone who supported us and helped on the project in any way (I’d like to say anyone who gave us backrubs)

greetz,

Jerre

day 11, binary for saturday

5 07 2008

yeah mathematical joke!

so on that extremely shameful note, here’s the report for saturday.

unlike day 2, day 3 started too early like the day before, this due kenny and filip waking timo and Jerre 3 hours before their wake-up call. it was like day 4 all over again and we all remember what that turned out to be.

After 3 of the four team members took a swim, we were set to work on the game, but due to unforeseen drunk puppy conventions in seoul we barely arrived in time for the judges to see our game at our art nouveau booth. It was really interesting to see their reactions and how they played the games

after that was over. we decided which parisian building would be graced with a drunkpuppy visit on the cultural day on sunday. After a long and hard selection, the final rose was handed to Centre Pompidou. The other buildings were pretty down after the announcement but they’ll get visited by the other talented students. we visited the eiffeltower al the way to the top after the heartbreaking decision. you know the tower that kinda looks like this one

before we entered the towers, the drunk puppy delegation was escorted by french soldiers. although they seemed to be pretty pro, they were quite noobish. you can see how cheap they are, cause the handle the crappiest gun from counter strike. hahaha I’d like to see them try to get headshots with that.

on our way up, timo was engaged in highly interesting beard-related conversations.

when we got to the top, the view was impressive for some members, but jerre was clearly not amused. the view just couldn’t top that of the penthouse at the drunkpuppy headquarters in Tokyo, seoul, rio, Chicago, ontario, LEUN DEUN and of course schaarbeek.

we were trying to get some awesome team pictures and we got ones like these

but Jerre clearly couldn’t be entertained, here we can see him in the middle of the f*** this shit wave hand.

but the rest of the team took a lot of pictures and clearly enjoyed themselves. the whining of one little bitch couldn’t bring them down. They beat him up and pushed him of the eiffel tower. after having seen enough of the tower. they went down to piece back the remains of Jerre. As you all know from our autobiography we’re like crash test dummy toys and easy to put together with the famous IKEA L-shaped screw driving tool.

so that’s what we had to say for today, we’re going to try to get a good night’s sleep and prepare for the top 3 announcement tomorrow morning and the cultural visit day.

so except for Jerre’s whining it was a great day, team Out!

Friday… day 2 in numbers

4 07 2008

okay day 2, first d-day (well there normally can be only one, but we’re hoping for a second one for us).

We woke up early to get to breakfast where we were informed that we had to do a presentation 4 hours later.

a presentation we didn’t prepare…but we wouldn’t be drunkpuppies if we were worried. but to not make the other teams feel bad, we used those 4 hours to fully prepare our presentation…for the first time. so when we entered the judging rooms at 2 pm we were the first game development team to be judged. The judges were really nice and interested in game development so we had nothing to worry about. we gave it our best (even more than that, as drunk puppies have something called our bestests) and we feel very confident about our performance.

we wore our costumes, but we wanted to show that not only our game looks great, but the people behind it even better (for viewer discretion the best looking man was ommited to not cause teen panic)

so rest of the afternoon revolved around relaxing, decorating our booth so people can come over to play it(so again we’re not showing his face, to not cause a lot of teen heartbreaks)

eventually after 25 hours of work, the booth was finished 5 minutes later.

I think we really pulled of an art nouveau style

but even a complex booth like that didn’t keep people away, it was very busy, as you can see, we had somebody playing the game.

as the evening is concluding we’re still chilling in the lounge, but that dind’t keep people away from our game or  maybe filip’s amazingly attractive coding, that even women came over to check on it. or maybe secret ninja seducing techniques

as we’re really enjoying our stay here, we’re really missing something, but there’s so much fun here, we don’t have the time to sulk

and on that note we’re going to leave you, but we’ll be back tomorrow, we hope and maybe you’ll get a glimpse at me, the mystery member (or check yesterday’s post)

team out!

Jerre

Thursday Day one

4 07 2008

So the report of day one, one day late :p for our english speaking friends

An early start for the four of us. It was time to leave for paris and show the world, what we’re made off. Together with the other Belgian team for software design we were determined to bring back a price for our beloved country.

After an incredibly long train trip from paris (a full hour and 15 minutes for like 300 kms, we all know team drunk puppy can do if faster. On foot), we finally arrived. The attention we got from the parisian people was amazing. Nobody talked to us, probably because they were impressed by our fantastic skills.

When we arrived at our hotel, the organisation greeted us with a goody bag and the keys of our 4-star hotel rooms. After shooting a short promo for imagine cup, led by a Holland film crew, we had our first lunch at the hotel. The lunch was an open buffet with a lot of choice, ideal to meet our high standards.

The parisian architecture barely made timo’s cut, but it got two thumbs up.

then we were knocked senseless and a few hours later we woke up in our new location. Drunk Puppy takes over New York City. Cheap X-box controller style!

just kidding. the statue of liberty close by provided the ideal location for a scam foto. We went back to the hotel to work on the game a bit. before we left to the city hall of paris.

The opening ceremony of paris was a great experience. Wonderful location, great champagne and a fantastic audience made of fellow students really made the first night one to remember. We had a great talk with the other game development teams and they proved that they’re not only great game design people, but great people aswell.

Team Out!

Jerre

Video interview at 9lives.be

30 06 2008

9lives.be is a major Belgian games site. We were interview by them last week and now they’ve put the video up. It’s in Dutch, but it does show quite a bit of game footage.

Meeting @ Microsoft

30 06 2008

Last week we went to Microsoft Belgium in Diegem, accompanied by two teachers of ours, Brecht Kets and Mike Ptacek. We got to meet the other Belgian Imagine Cup-finalists, the Haute Ecole de Liège, who have developed a system to organize carpooling online. Then we gave a presentation about Future Flow, got some final words of advice for Paris, and received an XBOX360 to test our game on.

A certain Aurélie whose last name I can’t remember suggested we create a blog to keep track of what happens at the finals next week… so here you go :)

We’re leaving Thursday July 3rd and will do our best to report every day, with pictures. That way everyone can see what we’re doing and leave comments without astronomical phone bills. C’est jolie, quoi!
